Hyundai Santa Fe (TM): Cylinder Head Assembly / Cylinder Head Cover. Repair procedures

Removal
1.
Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
2.
Remove the engine cover.
  
•
Remove the engine cover on room temperature.
•
Do not disengage both front and rear mounting point at the same time.
3.
Disconnect the wiring connectors and harness clamps and remove the connector brackets around the cylinder head cover.
4.
Remove the ignition coils.
(Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Ignition Coil")
5.
Disconnect the breather hose (A).

6.
Remove the cylinder head cover (A).

Installation
1.
Install cylinder head cover.

The hardening sealant located on the upper area between timing chain cover and cylinder head should be removed before assembling cylinder head cover.
(2)
After applying sealant, it should be assembled within 5 minutes.
Bead width : Ø 4.0 - 5.0 mm (0.16 - 0.20 in.)

(3)
Install the cylinder head cover (A) by tightening the bolts as following method.
Tightening torque
1st step : 3.9 - 5.9 N.m (0.4 - 0.6 kgf.m, 2.9 - 4.3 lb-ft)
2nd step : 7.8 - 9.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.0 kgf.m, 5.8 - 7.2 lb-ft)

Do not reuse cylinder head cover gasket.
•
The firing and/or blow out test should not be performed within 30 minutes after the cylinder head cover was assembled.
2.
Connect the breather hose (A).

3.
Install the ignition coils.
(Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Ignition Coil")
4.
Connect the wiring connectors and harness clamps and remove the connector brackets around the cylinder head cover.
Tightening torque
6.9 - 9.8 N.m (0.7 - 1.0 kgf.m, 5.1 - 7.2 lb-ft)
5.
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

    Components 1. Cylinder head cover 2. Cylinder head cover gasket 3. Cylinder head cover center bolt gasket

    Description Continuous Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) system advances or retards the valve timing of the intake and exhaust valve in accordance with the ECM control signal which is calculated by the engine speed and load.
